The standup paddleboard discipline of the 2016 Ultimate waterman took place in the deep deep south of the Southland region. The waves fired along a lefthand point break and Zane Schweitzer (HAW) obliged with a big win over double whammy surfer Caio Vaz.
The athletes travelled to the West Coast of the South Island to contest the SUP Surf discipline scoring pumping 6-8ft surf on a right-hand point break. Zane Schweitzer took out the win with Caio Vaz moving into the lead in the overall standings.

The Ultimate Waterman is the ultimate test of skill, strength and spirit that challenges the world's best athletes across eight surfing disciplines. It is the search to find the world's best, all-round waterman. Athletes will gather in New Zealand from 12-20 March, 2016.
Highlights of both the Day 5 longboard and the Day 6 final decider discipline the Stand Up Paddle Endurance. Including crowning The Ultimate Waterman winner, Daniel Kereopa of New Zealand.
For the first time ever, the world's finest watermen will come together in New Zealand to compete in 6 different surfing disciplines over eight days. The invitation-only contest will seek out the best conditions the country has to offer, creating a unique event that will test the eight elite competitors' skill and endurance in some of the planet's most stunning coastline.
Day 3 highlights of the mission to the Coromandel Peninsula in search of perfect waves generated by Cyclone Pam. The Ultimate Waterman ran the shortboard competition in perfect barreling beach breaks conditions.
